Just today, something inside of me snapped. I just want to dole out some hard cash and set up my own arcade setup at home. Buy a PCB from Japan, buy an arcade interface, along with the buttons, buy a new CRT telly and rotate it, then set up my own home made arcade at home. Damn.
Haven`t posted much, nothing much to post.
I`ve been drawing a little, but it`s not really in a state to post up, nor do I want to post up something so badly drawn.
Also, some animation I`ve been doing has finally been greenlighted!
The feeling is kind of.. happy jolly feeling, yet it`s not entirely so.
I should be happy, but I`m a little surprised that it`s been okay`ed so fast, given that I`ve only been doing it with my free time at night and a little on and off during weekends.
Perhaps I`m expecting too much.
It`s like when you`re working on a project or doing some work, when you`re actually doing it is the most enjoyable portion of it. It being okay`ed or completed gives you a certain sense of satisfaction, but it just feels a little empty afterwards, like you`re missing something.
Even though when you do a project, you`re aiming to complete it, but for me I don`t really want it to end, hopefully just go on forever.
The climb up the mountain is really the more fruitful and enjoyable experience rather than being at the top of the mountain.
Just had a revelation today regarding animation, economy of actions and the phrase less is more!
I used to think that economy of action the phrase less is more in animation simply meant that you try to do as little as possible to maximum effect.
But after animating a while, I`ve realised that that`s not true. If you`re looking to cut corners and try to save animation, you shouldn`t be in this business of animation. If you keep trying to do that, you won`t deliver a convincing enough performance, not will your character`s character show through.
You shouldn`t be trying to save work at the expense of a potentially better performance or just simply because you`re lazy and the current animation is `sufficient` to deliver his character. If you were to spend more time, the performance would be more striking, more obvious and show through at a glance.
What the principle and the phrase asks of you is not to cut corners, but to not over animate. There`s a line seperating overanimation and being lazy. Overanimation means that you`ve done more than you need to and it`s beginning to eat into the performance, or outshine other more critical parts or even eroding the entire performance!
Animation the most basic stuff all the way from below has really improved my skills a bit.
Everyday I`m discovering something new about it, learning new stuff, getting better and correcting so many things I never knew about or paid attention to before! And to think I called myself an animator last time..
Went to get some comments and direction today, turned out to be a really fruitful trip, even though he shot down nearly all of the animation.
Learned many things, so I hope the next trip will be as fruitful!
The SAF is jacked up. NS is wasting my 2 years, denying me of 2 years of my best time in my life. But NS is probably the best thing to happen to me so far.
I`ve changed as a person, and probably for the better in the 4 months that I`ve been serving so far. I`ve become infinitely more patient, I`ve come to love my family more, I`ve come to appreciate my friends more. I love all of you guys.
NS throws all the shit in the world at you. It`s the kind of thing you can`t pay money to get, no self help course in the world can put you through the same thing. Everyone gripes about it. I do too, but it`s making me into more of a man than 3 years of poly education. It`s something you just have to suck up as a man and be stoic about it.
NS turns you into a man. NS is probably more good for you than you think.
I`m probably saying this because I got into a pretty good vocation, but I`ve already seen the difference in me by the time I`m done with BMT.
